2.008 Design and Manufacturing II

DESCRIPTION AND PROCESS

For a class on manufacturing techniques, my team of seven mechanical engineering juniors designed and mass produced (tested a run of parts for 50 units) these yo-yos. Since it was the 150th anniversary of MIT, our yo-yos were themed in commemoration of the Institute. Each yo-yo had three injection molded parts, one thermoformed part, and one laser cut part.

Our yo-yo won best design at the end of the semester.

ROLE

I was responsible for designing the injection molded part shown on the right in Solidworks, producing MasterCAM output files the molds for it, machining the molds, optimizing injection molding parameters, and overseeing and analyzing a run of 100 parts. I also helped my team members complete their parts and assemble 50 yo-yos.
